How To Choose a Sachet Filling Machine
In daily life, many food, beverage and beauty product manufacturers have adopted sachet packaging to facilitate carrying and use, accurately control the amount of use, keep the product fresh and hygienic, or reduce packaging costs. Because of these significant advantages of sachet packaging, a variety of sachet filling machines have appeared on the market to meet the needs of different production.
What Is Sachet Filling Machine
Sachet filling machine (also called sachet filler) is designed for packaging material that can be poured and that will flow such as powder, granule, liquid & paste includes instant drinks powder, sutritional supplements, lotion, herb seasoning.
Sachet filling machines are roughly divided into vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machines, horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) machines and pre-made pouch packaging machines. This article specifically introduces VFFS type and how to choose.

How Are Sachets Made Through Sachet Filling Machines?
VFFS packaging machines starts with a roll of film material, often polyethylene, cellophane, aluminum foil or paper rolled around a drum. A roll of film is unfolding and formed into a tube over a forming collar. A vertical overlap seal is applied to the tube by the vertical sealing bars. A bottom seal is created by the horizontal sealing bars in the cross jaws. The formed pouch is then filled with correct amount of product while the film tube is being fed by the film transport belts. Often proper amount of product will be filled in the pouch in a consistent manner. After the correct length of film tube has been fed, a top seal of the filled pouch is created by the horizontal sealing bars, while the filled pouch is cut from the descending film tube by a knife in the cross jaws. If the film is pre-printed, a registration sensor is added to the system to correct the film position in order to maintain the correct print position relative to the end of the pouch. The bottom seal creation of the empty pouch, top seal creation of the filled pouch and cutting of the filled pouch all occur at the same time.
What Is The Use Of Sachet Filling Machine?
Most liquid, pastes, powders, granules, and granule-powder mixtures can be packaged by VFFS packaging machines. Next, we will introduce what kind of machine to choose for different packaging materials.
Depending on the type of packaging material, they are generally divided into three main types:
1. Powder Packaging Machine
Application Industries:
Food industry: Instant coffee, seasoning powders, beverage mixes
Healthcare industry: Herbal granules, protein powders, supplements
Cosmetic & Personal Care: Cleansing powder, mask powder
Features: Uses a screw auger filling system, ideal for free-flowing or semi-free non-sticky powders. It fills material according to controlling predetermined number of revolutions. By choosing screw rods of different sizes, the filling volume can be controlled and precise distribution can be achieved. Dust removal and anti-static systems can also be configured for a cleaner seal.
2. Liquid / Paste Packaging Machine
Application Industries:
Food industry: Condiments, syrup, portioned honey or sauces
Cosmetic industry: Travel-size skin care products, lotions, serums
Healthcare industry: Oral liquids, antiseptic rinses, gels
Features: Uses pump-type quantitative system (including piston pumps, peristaltic pumps, magnetic pumps, rotor pumps, ceramic pumps, etc.) to achieve accurate filling of liquid or paste. Anti-dripping nozzles, heater, mixer can be customized to ensure clean and smooth sealing.
3. Granule / Granule-Powder Mixture
Application Industries:
Food industry: Spices, herb seasoning, oat, instant granule drinks
Healthcare industry: Fish oil, Vitamin sachets, herbal mixtures
Agriculture: Seed packaging, small sachets of granular fertilizer
Features: Adopt measuring cup or high-precision weighing system, suitable for uniform and non-sticky particles. For particle powder mixtures, electronic weighing and measurement are more often used, and a feeding machine is equipped to supply the packaging material to ensure smooth packaging. Support mixed particle packaging with multi-row design.
Main Feature & Customization of Sachet Filling Machine
A qualified packaging machine should have customization conditions and reasonable configuration and the ability to work in combination with other machines. Choose the configuration to improve your production according to production needs:
Automatic Feeding: Continuous and stable feeding ensures that the machine runs without stopping and improves production efficiency. Common automatic feeding systems include: vibrating feeder, screw feeder, bucket elevator, vacuum feeder, etc.
Coding Function: Clear coding can meet regulatory requirements, improve product credibility and enable automation. For example, printing production date, shelf life/expiration date, batch number, product number or barcode, etc.
Servo Film Pulling: A high-precision servo motor is used to control the rotation of the film-pulling wheel. The packaging film is pulled accurately according to the set packaging length to ensure that the length of each bag is consistent and the alignment is accurate.
Tear Notch Sachet: It is convenient for consumers to open the packaging, improves the product grade and professionalism, and the packaging bags with easy-tear edges appear more formal and thoughtful, which helps to build the brand.
Custom Shaped Sachet: Improve product shelf appeal, make products more personalized, and enhance brand impression.
Multi-Lane Filling: It greatly improves production capacity and saves space, has higher utilization rate of film, and is suitable for small bag packaging.
Nitrogen Filling: Filling with nitrogen can extend the shelf life of food, prevent oxidation and spoilage, and maintain the product packaging shape.
Hole Punching Function: It allows for creating holes on the packaging film or finished bags to enable hanging, ventilation, or easy tearing—greatly improving the product’s usability and display value.
Vacuum Sealing: The air inside the package is evacuated before sealing, thus creating a vacuum inside the bag. This is very common for products that need to extend shelf life or need to be protected from environmental factors such as moisture, air or pollution.
Sealing Method: Select the sealing type according to product requirements (such as three-side sealing, four-side sealing, back sealing)
Connect with Other Machines - Such as Metal Detector/Weight Detector/Dust Collector, etc. For secondary inspection of products.
How To Choose a Sachet Filling Machine
1. Production Capacity
The most important factor to consider when choosing a machine is the machine capacity. Choose the right machine for you based on your needs. Capacity determines the production speed of the machine, usually measured in "BPM(bags per minute)".
Small-scale production: If the market demand for your product is not large for the time being, a semi-automatic or small automatic sachet packaging machine is sufficient to meet your needs.
Large-scale production: If your production scale is already certain, or you need to expand your business urgently. It is recommended to choose a high-speed production packaging machine (such as a machine with an output of more than 100 BPM).
2. Sealing Type
The sealing type of sachet is crucial because it decide the shape, function and adaptability of the product packaging. Different types of sachet are suitable for different products and market needs. Common sealing types of sachet:
Three sides Seal: This sealing type of sachet is suitable for small powder packages product, such as instant coffee powder, seasonings, etc. It is often used for products that require high speed production.
Four Sides Seal: This type of sachet provides better sealing and is suitable for products that require extra protection, such as liquids and grease products. Suitable for high-end market.
Back Seal: This type of sachet is usually used to package larger products and can better maintain the safety and quality of the materials.
Choosing a bag type that suits your product can effectively enhance the attractiveness and market competitiveness of the packaging, making your product more popular with buyers.
3. Sachet Shape
The sachet shape also has an important impact on the selection of sachet filling machines. Some sachet shape (such as gusset bag) require specific mold molding, and the design of the sealing method and sealing position (such as the side seal often used for packaging energy gels sachet) will also affect the equipment configuration. In addition, if the sachet has functional structures such as hanging holes, the corresponding processing technology must also be considered. These factors will directly affect the selection of the bag forming structure and the conveying design of the whole machine, and must be comprehensively considered when selecting the sachet filling machine.
4.Bag Size
Choose the appropriate machine according to the sachet width and sachet length of your product. If your desired sachet exceeds these limits, you’ll need a larger forming collar or a different model. If the bag is too small, filling will be difficult and the sealing will easily cause overflow; If the bag is too large, it will lead to waste of film materials and increase transportation costs; It is recommended to reserve 20-40mm in the bag length for bag cutting spacing.
5.Cost of the Machine
The first step is to match your budget with the machine type, and then choose based on your budget and capacity needs.
Low Budget: Choose a desktop machine or a semi-automatic machine, which is relatively inexpensive and has low maintenance costs. Suitable for startups and small batch production.
High Budget: The fully automatic servo VFFS packaging machine is equipped with a high-precision metering system, a metal detector and a weight detector. It ensures the integrity and consistency of the product and is suitable for large-scale production enterprises and products with high quality requirements.
6. Packaging Film
Common packaging film types and characteristics
OPP/CPP: Low cost, transparent, good heat sealing, often used in candy, dry particles.
OPP/PE: Soft, transparent, suitable for medium and low speed packaging, commonly used for granules, snacks, and leisure foods.
PET/PE: High strength, moisture-proof, suitable for ordinary sauces and small bags of liquids.
PET/AL/PE: High barrier, high temperature resistance, light protection, moisture resistance, suitable for health products, honey, protein powder, etc.
