ROPP Capper

The ZONESUN ROPP capper machine , also known as a roll-on pilfer proof capper due to its forming and tamper-evident sealing process, is designed for sealing aluminum roll-on pilfer proof caps onto bottles, widely used in wine, spirits, edible olive oil, and pharmaceutical industries.

ZONESUN offers both semi automatic ROPP capping machines and automatic ROPP capping machines, meeting production needs from small batch operations to fully integrated bottling lines.

How Does a ROPP Capping Machine Work?

In ZONESUN ROPP capping machines, filled bottles are positioned under the capping head, where an aluminum cap is placed onto the bottle neck.

The capping head then descends and applies controlled downward pressure while rotating. Equipped with multiple forming rollers, the capping structure can shape the cap progressively during rotation. Smooth aluminum caps are transformed into fitted closure with threads and tamper-evident features after this rolling and forming action.

ZONESUN can provide advanced additional forming actions(such as top reform) to improve sealing performance according to cap design and application requirements.

How to Choose the Right Capping Method

Choosing the right capping solution is important to ensure sealing performance, production efficiency, and compatibility with your packaging.

Based on ZONESUN’s extensive experience in providing ROPP capping solutions, the choice of capping method mainly depends on three key factors: cap type, cap size, and required production speed.

Step 1: Identify Your Cap Type

The cap type determines the capping technology required.

Ropp capping machine: smooth aluminum cap (ROPP type), stelvin closure (BVS closure)

Screw capping machine: pre-threaded aluminum cap, plastic screw cap (PP)

*Many customers who inquire about ZONESUN ROPP capping machines often confuse pre-threaded aluminum caps with ROPP caps. If the cap is smooth before application and requires thread forming during sealing, a ROPP capping machine is required. Please refer to the comparison below for clarification.

Step 2: Confirm Cap Size and Bottle Compatibility

Cap size and bottle dimensions affect machine configuration and changeover flexibility.

Common cap sizes include:

  • 18 mm
  • 22 mm
  • 28 mm
  • 30 mm

ZONESUN ROPP capping machines can be configured to accommodate different bottle heights and cap sizes through adjustable components or change parts.

For applications involving multiple bottle sizes, proper configuration is essential to ensure stable operation and sealing consistency.

Step 3: Define Production Speed

Production capacity determines the appropriate machine type and overall configuration.

  • <1200 BPH:Semi automatic ROPP capping machine
  • 1000–2000 BPH:Single-head rotary ROPP capping machine
  • 4000+ BPH:Multi-heads Rotary ROPP capping machine

Choosing the correct configuration ensures stable performance, consistent sealing quality, and efficient production.

Semi Automatic vs Automatic ROPP Capping Machine

ZONESUN offers different machine types based on production requirements.

Semi Automatic ROPP Capping Machine

  • Capacity: 800–1000 bottles/hour
  • Manual bottle positioning
  • Compact and easy to operate
  • Suitable for small production or testing

Automatic ROPP Capping Machine

  • Capacity: 2000–12000 bottles/hour
  • Automatic bottle loading/unloading and cap feeding
  • Adjustable for different bottle sizes
  • Suitable for continuous production lines

Linear vs Rotary ROPP Capping Machine

ZONESUN ROPP capping machines can be designed in different structural configurations depending on production requirements. The two most common types are linear ROPP capping machines and rotary ROPP capping machines.

Linear ROPP Capping Machine

In a linear configuration, bottles move in a straight line and are capped one by one.

Characteristics:

  • Compact machine structure
  • Lower production capacity
  • Flexible for different bottle sizes
  • Easier debug and operation

Typical capacity:

Up to around 800 bottles per hour

ZONESUN linear ropp capper is suitable for small to medium-scale production or flexible packaging needs.

Rotary ROPP Capping Machine

In a rotary system, bottles are continuously processed through a rotating turret with multiple capping heads.

Characteristics:

  • Continuous high-speed operation
  • Multiple capping heads working simultaneously
  • Higher efficiency and output
  • More stable in large-scale production

Typical capacity:

4000+ bottles per hour (depending on configuration)

ZONESUN rotary ropp capping machine is designed for high-volume bottling lines such as wine and spirits production.

Top Reform in ROPP Capping

In applications such as beverages, wine, and spirits packaging, sealing quality depends not only on thread forming and tamper band creation, but also on how the top of the cap is formed during the capping process.

Standard ROPP capping machines use a flat pressure block, where sealing contact is mainly concentrated on the top surface of the bottle finish.

However, for applications with high sealing requirements, ZONESUN’s past packaging solutions show that a top reform process is often necessary. In this process, a specially designed pressure block reshapes the top of the aluminum cap during capping, allowing the sealing force to extend from the bottle top to the outer wall of the bottle finish.

Based on validation data provided by ZONESUN customers, caps applied with top reform demonstrated significantly improved sealing performance. In pressure-based leak testing, reformed caps were able to withstand high internal pressure without leakage, while standard caps without reform showed leakage at much lower pressure levels.

This indicates that the top reform process can significantly enhance sealing reliability, especially under transportation and temperature variations.

Key Benefits of Top Reform

  • Enhanced sealing integrity
  • Improved pressure resistance
  • Reduced risk of leakage
  • More consistent performance across batches

Not all ROPP capping machines are equipped for this process. ZONESUN can provide customized pressure block designs and capping head configurations to meet advanced sealing requirements.

FAQ of ZONESUN ROPP Capping Machine

Q1: Is ROPP capping machine only for glass bottles?

No. It is mainly used for glass bottles, but can also be customized for aluminum bottles depending on cap design and structure.

Q2: What is the difference between ROPP capper and screw capper?

A ROPP capper forms threads on aluminum caps during sealing, while a screw capper tightens pre-threaded caps without forming threads.

Q3: Can one ZONESUN Ropp capper machine handle different cap sizes?

Yes. Cap size flexibility can be achieved by changing or adjusting capping heads.

Q4: Can the machine be integrated into a filling line?

Yes. ZONESUN ropp capper is commonly used as part of full filling systems.

Q5: What if I am not sure about my cap type?

Please send your cap photos or drawings. We will confirm the correct machine type for you.
